SPS Habitat Reaches over 400 Local Families with Holiday Event this past Weekend

This past weekend, the West Olympia Habitat for Humanity Store was filled with the squeals and laughter of children as over 400 families joined us for our 2nd annual “Free Photos with Santa and Cookie Decorating” two-day event. With the help of amazing community sponsors like  TwinStar Credit Union, Lacey Costco, Contempo Photo Studio and South Sound Reading Foundations, local families, regardless of income or cash-on-hand were able to experience the magic of seeing Santa Claus. Families took photos with Santa, decorated holiday cookies and were even able to choose a new book to take home, courtesy of South Sound Reading Foundation. One family said “we went to the mall but didn’t have enough money for photos with Santa, so Habitat really helped our daughter have a Christmas like all of her friends,” this is the type of memory we would like to offer to our community year after year!

The store was transformed from a discount home improvement retail shop to a winter wonderland with the help of beautiful Christmas trees donated by Hunter Family Farms and amazing gingerbread houses constructed by the Baking and Pastry Arts students at South Puget Sound Community College led by master baker Melanie Shelton and of course amazing Habitat Volunteers!

If you missed the event this year, don’t worry we plan to bring this event back bigger and better than ever again next holiday season!

We wish you and your families a very happy holiday season!
