What is Women Build?

Women from your area join together for a 6-day effort to build three homes for a low-income hardworking families in our community. Teams of 12 women each day will work together each day to raise funds and walls and work to achieve our goal of $60,000 raised for these homes. Money raised will be used to purchase the construction materials for the new home.

All of the tools and materials needed to build for your designated day will be provided to you. We will also provide you with a Women Build 2021 branded T-shirt and lunch on the day of your build.

Who Can Participate?

The Habitat for Humanity Women Build program recruits educates and encourages women to build and advocate for decent and affordable houses in their communities. Women make up over 50 percent of Habitat for Humanity volunteer force and homeowners; yet often because of lack of training, they account for less than 15 percent of workers on the construction site. The Women Build program was established to encourage the involvement of women in the construction of Habitat homes without excluding men. All are welcome!

What if someone wants to sign up to build on more than one day?

If space allows, builders are welcome to volunteer on multiple days/teams. Keep in mind, for each builder spot that a person fills, he/she will need to fundraise or donate $100 per day registration fee. Thus, if a person signs up for two Women Build days, he/she would need to raise or donate a minimum of $200.

History

In 1991, a group of women in Charlotte, N.C., came together to build a stronger, safer community and completed the first women-built Habitat for Humanity house. With that event, the seeds for Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program were planted. South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity participated in its first women build program in 2018 and has been empowering women in the Thurston County area to address and help solve the housing crises in their own neighborhood. Since that time Women Build has helped to complete 3 homes for low-income families in our community.
