A Grove at Shepherd’s Grove

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

This morning, SPS Habitat for Humanity affiliate founders Cindy and Jerry Schultz joined volunteers at Shepherd’s Grove to plant four fruit trees on the site.   Cindy and Jerry planted two apple trees and two pear trees, in the hopes that one day they will bear plentiful fruit for the families who live at Shepherd’s Grove.  Thank you to Leo, from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, for coming out to help, and thank you, Cindy and Jerry, for your thoughtful contribution to this project!

Nailing Down the Details

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Volunteers at Shepherd’s Grove are making steady progress as we move closer and closer to the finish line. Despite the persistent spring rains, today workers are busy building storage sheds for each home, planting trees and shrubs, putting that last coat of paint on the trim, and finishing the front steps. The transformation of the site over recent weeks is impressive and inspiring!

Last but not least, the back deck!

With the dedication ceremony merely weeks away, volunteers and members of the partner families are busy painting and putting the finishing touches on the homes at Shepherd’s Grove. Two of the houses have been painted so far, one is half-way done, and the last two are on track to get painted this coming weekend. Now it’s all about the details; painting the trim, building the rear decks, installing the mail boxes, and cleaning up the interiors to make them move-in ready. The change in the weather has bolstered everyone’s spirits too, and today, workers took advantage of the sunshine to eat lunch outdoors and soak up some rays!

Soon-to-be homeowners Aaron, Trisha, and Amanda break for lunch.

Thank You Whirlpool!

Whirlpool does a lot for South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity. They donate appliances for our homes, free of charge. On occasion we will get a special gift from them. That gift comes in the donation of appliances for the sole purpose of selling them in our ReStore. As you may know, all proceeds from sales at the ReStore go directly to our building projects. So large donation of appliances can go a long way in our mission to provide housing for the low income.

This past February, Whirlpool made a great donation of ranges and range hoods to the ReStore. These brand new products are marked to half of what they are retail! With such great savings you can win by saving a ton of money during your kitchen remodel all while giving back to Habitat for Humanity. So thank you Whirlpool for continuing to give back year after year. These items will go fast, so hurry down to the store while you can. We are opened EVERYDAY from 9:00 Am – 6:00 PM.
